Hey Chancellor – Controversial for you but maybe what the Public wants?

Are you really wanting us to believe you?

#Politicians #Lies #Truth #Honest

Seriously can we trust you?

With less than 48 hours to go (Wednesday 19th March 2014) until our next Budget, yesterday we saw on The Marr Show (Sunday 16th March 2014), the presenter – Andrew Marr – being all over the place with his interviewing, The Shadow Chancellor of the ExchequerEd Balls – talking lots of wonderful stories including spending the same money over and over again different projects and The Chancellor of the Exchequer – George Osborne – not really telling us much but dropping hints that are what we need plus having to take action due to what was inherited…

The weakness of allowing Politicians to get away with so much on television, is just so demoralising to so many of the voting Public and hence they are losing interest in voting. The Politicians that are being really being backed by the Public are the ones who actually speak and stick to their guns! The downside is that you don’t see them in either the Cabinet or Shadow Cabinet as they stick to their principles unless they are just after high office….

So many Politicians enter all full of good intentions but soon get their wings either clipped or get overcome by advisors or donors….just look at many of the MP’s or even your own! How often did they say this or that, promise something, then next thing they change their tune or never speak to you or visit you again unless it is Election time?

These Politicians are all full of good intention (no better place to see this than when in Opposition) yet as soon as they have the power – nothing really happens at all…..

Take Income Tax for example, each and every time there is an election, all parties say they will cut tax, introduce higher rates and then when elected it all changes with more allowances brought in to help cushion the tax issues, help some pay less tax, put taxes up at high rate and then only find it wasn’t a good deal, so change it back again…..

Another example is saying they are going to change Government, cut bureaucracy and get rid of advisors, but guess what, they hire advisors to study this, reorganise and replace groups with new groups and committees and all done after paying lobbyists and advisors lots of money….is this saving money? NO…….

So, we could vote with our feet and choose not to vote, but what will that achieve? Not a lot as it! Will it help things to change? No, things will remain the same due to the hardcore of voters actually voting like they always do, so change will not really happen…

If the Government was run like a business, so much money could be saved, so much could be done to advance the UK and so many groups, committees and individuals would be removed saving the Country lots of money…

OK – yes, maybe the top jobs need top people, but do we need to pay so much money? Why do Heads of Schools, Colleges, Councils or Hospitals, Health Trusts etc, etc be paid so much more than the Prime Minister?

What can really be done? Can anything? Just look what will happen come Post-Budget…..

  • The Papers and Media will slaughter parts, most of or all of the Budget
  • Ed Balls will say George Osborne didn’t do this, they would have done this yet no evidence provided or nothing will be costed
  • George Osborne will say that this is needed to rectify the debt the Coalition inherited when they took over from Labour
  • The Public will be moaning or cheering but in most parts it will be the former…..

So, here’s a thought or two Mr Osborne…….

  • Firstly scrap all the allowances….
  • Remove all the tax breaks available…….
  • Stop people being able to class themselves as a company so they employer can pay them through a company to reduce the tax they pay..
  • If people are a company, make sure they pay the proper tax, not find out ways to pay less – i.e. if your company can pay you £60,000 a year – then you should pay the same tax as someone you actually earns £60,000 a year. There is no difference….
  • Stand up and do these – not be told by advisors, accountancy companies etc etc that you can’t do this – yes you can….

If this was done and then another Budget done in say September or October with an update, the Public would actually start trusting MP’s so much more as they would see that everyone is being treated the same….

Just a few and no doubt controversial points for you to consider and discuss……let’s see what people will say……….

These are just a few thoughts for you and you most likely will have a view even for or against and if you feel you need to comment or voice an opinion, either contact myself here or complete the form below:-

2014 – what is inspiring or influential?

IanMCalvert ServiceAddress TheSocialPiggy Influencer SocialMedia Lists

Quite interesting that just before or after Christmas, and the same can be said for New Year; lists start to appear (and yes, before you say it, I did do one but mine was around the end of November and then has been updated since) which show you the ‘movers and shakers‘, ‘top people, men or women‘, ‘influential people‘ or ‘inspiring people‘ but…….

What are these?

Having spent last year seeing people “self promoting” saying they were on this list and that list and at this position. But what are they? Do you actually really look at these people and their backgrounds?

That is why I did my list back in November and mine was based on people who I found actually to be inspiring and that had interacted with myself (ie we exchanged messages, emails and/or telephone calls), thus meaning I wanted to share these people with you as they actually are people over robots!

IanMCalvert ServiceAddress TheSocialPiggy Influence Lists

Apologies if you are on a list and feel I have called you a robot, but my reason is simple…..

INTERACTION!!

Just look at these lists and these people you see on there, they are coming across just totally one-sided in my opinion in most cases. Have you looked at the profiles and what they are sending? In most cases, from what I have seen, they:-

  • Post several times an hour
  • Each and every hour
  • Seven days a week
  • Thus – they are constant posting, just pumping out information over and over again, do you see this from top business people or entrepreneurs?
  • Look back at the posts – they are repeated each week, over the fortnight or month – repetitive?
  • When you see their posts, are they up to date? Look at the  links and blogs – see the dates on them
  • When you see their posts, you will see people have commented or shared them – yet how often is there a reply/response from the person posting
  • Lots of the posts that are posted, in some cases, are their clients work, so they are posting work for their clients that they have done, to gain more exposure for their clients – but is this right? Does this help you or them?

So, when you see these lists, actually consider the bigger picture…..

Whilst these people have got on to these lists by sharing lots of information which yes is of interest and benefit in some cases, but can they really help me? That is the question you need to ask yourself…

If they don’t speak to hardly anyone, will they interact me? You need to interact with people and the best influencers for you and your business are people who you engage with….

Just look at your business, if you didn’t communicate with your prospects, they wouldn’t become clients and these clients wouldn’t buy from you and thus, you would have no sales and no income! Meaning……

NO JOB or MONEY

So, when looking at these lists, make sure you are choosing the right people to spend time with. Yes you can follow these people to learn and share some of their posts but you need to interact with influencers….

Don’t just take my word for it, look at my list and just see who they are and how they interact…..

Are you Showcasing?

So does your business Showcase?

#IanCalvert #Ian-Calvert #IanMCalvert #Ian-M-Calvert #LinkedIn #ServiceAddress #Service-Address #ShowcasePages #Showcase-Pages

With LinkedIn launching Showcase pages recently, have you implemented these into your business strategy yet? If not – why not?

The real benefit that many people have not seen or grasped yet, is how you can really develop so much of other parts of your business that you have or offer but people aren’t really aware of.

Showcasing enables you to allow people to really drill down into various ares of your company and can offer whilst you are able to promote aspects of your business you are always doing or offering but you just do or offer as a matter of course….

What are people missing?

What is there that a Showcase can offer?

Why should I have one?

Simple – it is you having the sole unique method of claiming what everyone is looking for via LinkedIn. When people are after something or looking for a service/product, they then search and what will they find? Your LinkedIn Showcase which gives you the advantage. Furthermore, your Showcase is showing not only about your services, offerings and products in a unique way but provides the latest news and information that details everything to your audience and your Peer’s too.

So what do you need to do? Firstly you need to have your Company Profile which is where you want everything, so when they require more information, people can see everything your company does and also, all information about the company too. If this is going back to a different section or part of your company, you may wish to consider setting up a separate Company Profile to suit your needs that you are promoting.

Once you have the Company Profile set up, then decide which area you want to promote and inform you audience about. (Remember, if you want to Showcase many areas of your business, you can have up to 10 Showcases attached to your Company Profile – should you wish more, then you can ask LinkedIn to release more). Your Showcase is effectively the landing page for what you are wanting to promote and circulate.

For example, let’s say you are a recruitment company and have your company page. You can have a Showcase on temporary employment and this will be your landing page about this. On your temporary employment Showcase, you will be able to post articles on everything to so with this, ranging from what is the latest laws, what is happening with regards to your rights, items that have been in the news relevant to temporary employment, etc, etc – furthermore, you can have an article on what to look for when looking to register with a recruitment company.

At the end of the day, you are not promoting your company directly but highlighting a part of your business by showcasing this area with the latest news and information on this topic. This helps you to develop much further as an Engager and Influencer, thus creating another level of credibility. Thus, in summary, you are highlighting an area of your industry which your company is well versed in and thus, subliminally guiding them back to your company.

Some examples of Showcase pages include:-

Do you answer or not?

Are you an Engager?

Do you actively participate in your Social Media when people communicate with you?

You post a status update or share information, people reply or comment on this, or you notice that they have viewed your profile – do you comment or reply?

One of the major things you hear people complain about when it comes to Social Media, is that sometimes, it is very one-sided, even when your posts, comments and updates are very informative. The question is, do you acknowledge everything and interact?

#IanCalvert #Ian-Calvert #IanMCalvert #Ian-M-Calvert #ServiceAddress #Service-Address #TheSocialPiggy #The-Social-Piggy #SocialMedia #Social-Media

  • On Facebook – people follow you, comment on your posts and like your posts, what do you do?
  • On Instagram – people follow you, like your photo and post a comment, what do you do?
  • On LinkedIn – people view you, people ask to connect to you, like your posts and comment on your posts, what do you do?
  • On Twitter – people follow you, tweet you and re-tweet you, what do you do?

The above are just four examples of Social Media platforms and what happens, so what are your answers to “what do you do”?

  • Do you ignore?
  • Selective answer?
  • Or reply to every thing that people do to your various aspects of Social Media?

When you start becoming very popular and have lots of interaction, at what point do you hold back on replying to everything and thanking people for interacting you?

This can always be a hotly debated topic and one where there is not always a right or wrong answer or is the answer selective based on the platform? Do you reply to everything on LinkedIn but not everything on all the other platforms, for example? Or just reply to everything you are able to, in that moment of time that you have just come on-line for?

At the end of the day – what is important? Is it that you use certain platforms for your business? So you only reply to comments or posts in-connection to your business? Do you acknowledge or thank people who have followed you, liked your items or shared them?

Personally, I think you need to be undertaking, what is of major influence and engaging to help you and your business develop and grow. That way, you are not only learning but you are engaging and influencing with your Circle of Influence to create to a network of connections that truly benefits you.

Social Media…..what form does it take for you?

Social Media – now those are two words which pose a great question of what is it and what do you need to do?

Well I get asked this a lot when people ask me what I do and I reply Social Media, the comments are normally, ‘oh I don’t get that’, ‘why do I want people to know what I am doing’ etc…. So, I have started a serious of blogs to show and tell you about my views on Social Media, many may or may not agree but these are my thoughts and views on what you should consider or do, plus also, some insights on the wider picture of where you should consider how your business needs to look at Social Media.

Like with anything in your life, I would have to say that you need to establish and recognise that Social Media is like you do with your life, ‘is it Personal’ or ‘is it Business’?

This is big mistake people make, they don’t seem to understand about separating the two and how easy this can be converge the two together. Remember you are not famous, and depending how you want to use Social Media, separation needs to be key in my opinion.

Whilst yes, people buy from people, there is life outside of where you live and people/companies don’t know you like your local friends do and may take the exception to some of your posts or tweets which may affect your interaction with them.

With this in mind you need to consider a few points:-

  • When using Social Media – who are you wanting to speak to or interact with? Just think of your audience and what platforms the audience you want to communicate, are they using the platforms that you are sending your message to?
  • With regards to your audience, it tends to split in to a various types:-
  • Personal or family sharing of information
  • The young generation who want some way of sharing something quick and finding things fast as they need them
  • Selling your business or services to your clients and potential clients
  • Promoting and engaging with your audience to create brand awareness
  • When you are communicating via Social Media – make sure what you are communicating is sharable or private
  • Following the written rules and unwritten rules as this will make you message more clear when delivered to your audience
  • When communicating, make your message is what you would actually say “Face to Face” in the street to someone
  • Social Media is not just around you but worldwide, so if you are wanting to promote yourself and your work, then you need to consider how you promote your message

Actually, sit back and whilst you may be mad at something, think before you send as even though you delete it afterwards, it has already has been captured by the Digital Footprint and is there as a record. Too many people post things via Social Media but in the future, this has come back to haunt them and in some cases has affected their career and sometimes lead to legal investigations.

Whatever your views are on Social Media, actually it is something that you can’t hide from, as it is embracing your daily life, even though you may not realise it. Take for example, many companies and are now putting their services out via Social Media, whether it is instruction/user guides on-line via their websites, customer services on-line again via their websites, Twitter and Facebook and more common place, placing demonstration and “how to guides” on Social Media channels such their websites, Facebook and YouTube.

Furthermore, recent developments have led companies to offering discounts and vouchers via their on-line Social Media presence as well as companies like Google and Facebook to track what you are doing to enable you to receive adverts and promotions to match what you have viewing.

The one last thing I will leave you with, the internet is all around and not just on your doorstep. So, whilst you have a local market for you, your work or your company, the internet can actually really benefit you, the internet can be there to bring you another window of opportunity…..
