Councils need to take back Apprenticeships and Apprenticeship Programmes in order to make their Community survives……

Today, the world is very much a different place from when we were at school back in the 1990’s, 1980’s, 1970’s or even in the 1960’s, but we can bring many of the principles of the 1950’s and 1960’s plus even the 1970’s into how we get businesses engaging with and working together with schools again.

In the mid and late 1980’s, we saw the emergence of Training Providers entering both the world of Education and Business to start the process of disrupting the whole model of helping schools prepare candidates for the business community within their towns and cities.

These Training Providers were able to provide cost savings and efficiencies that both sides wanted but totally ignored what that Business/Education partnership offered.

You speak to the business community and you’ll see how much they say education has been dumbed down and people skills has been lost, hence when these schoolchildren/students leave school, college or university, they don’t have the life skills that were present up to the early 1980’s.

If we are to create a workforce ready for tomorrow, then Councils need to step up for a WinWin solution by acting as the conduit for the Business and Education communities coming together.

Whether it be an Apprenticeship Provider or a Training Provider, they seem to be coming up with nothing more than a factory turning out “Apprentices to meet targets” and gather Government funding to make profits for themselves over delivering what companies really need.

By having a Council lead team delivering Careers Advice programmes can really deliver huge success to the City/Town as a whole as this would help the Council deliver a much wider programme.

Companies delivering the right programme to the school, can really shape the future workforce whilst the Council will be learning the shortfalls the City/Town has and how to plug these gaps.

A Council lead CDO programme will really bring huge financial rewards to the City/Town with real IT benefits being delivered to meet the needs of every school and the wider community too. 

Having a CDO lead programme via the schools in partnership with the local business community, means that every City/Town will be preparing a workforce ready for the 2020’s, 2030’s, 2040’s and beyond!

It’s time to remove commercial organisations from the schools and college environment as they are doing more damage to the workforce of tomorrow and the City/town than Councils realise!

It’s time for Councils to wake-up and take back control and prepare their footprint to look after the their Community of tomorrow……..

Market Research and LinkedIn….think before you make that call…..

A wonderful question that I was asked and I thought I would ask it back to you all in the community here….

“Why are you on LinkedIn and what is the benefit for you? Maybe you might find the benefits much more rewarding if you upgraded?”

Your thoughts……

So, the side issue to asking this came from the following:-

I received a telephone call today from someone, asking what I did and whether they can help by offering myself Social Media Training and specifically, training on LinkedIn and how I would benefit from some of their training.

When I asked why they thought this, they said that they had read my profile and contacted myself to help me use LinkedIn better as I obviously needed help with it! So when I ask about the people viewing my page does this get recognised? They said with their help, they could get me into the top 20 % of the most viewed profiles in the world this year.

I was surprised that they could make a claim so bold and wanted to know how they can see this working if I would get rewarded for this? They said that LinkedIn would reward and promote myself in January to this fact. So, I said that I am interested and would they review my profile and come back to myself with:-

  • a report on what is wrong with my profile
  • how they can change this
  • how they can improve my profile
  • how long it will take
  • a quotation based on what is required

I still can’t work out how they got my details to ring me after viewing myself on LinkedIn but I await to see what they will come back with…..I doubt they will……..

Note:-

The reason for doubting they will come back, is simple, if they had read my profile on LinkedIn, they:-

  • Would have seen my headline
  • My headline clearing stating that I was in the Top 1% of most viewed profiles on LinkedIn last year
  • I do offer Social Media advice, help, training and management
  • I also offer Sales Training too
  • LinkedIn do indeed send out confirmation (well they did this year) to you about your profile every so often, but I only have heard of and seen, Top 10%, 7%, 5%, 3% and 1%

So, a word of advice to any one out there who is looking to do cold calling today, this week or this month…..

Catch up on the week that was……..

So here we are on a late Saturday afternoon with time to reflect on the week that was but how do I reflect? Do I just say what I feel or should I be open or play it safe……

One thing I wonder, is if I should scream and shout more? I feel that people take you for being you and what you want people to believe you are! One thing I do is work – why do I work?

Well, it is simple, I was educated through school, college, some university and my working career by various companies and some amazing individuals. I was able to attend some top courses, seminars, talks, launches and dinners which have had management, Peer’s, Industry Leaders, Business Owner’s & Leaders together with celebrities, sports stars and inspirational speakers/motivators and oh some top sales trainers too. Why do I mention this? Putting it simply, I have done or experienced more than most, whilst I hear and see others sing, dance, shout whilst also getting others to sing their praises when they have done nothing like I have, experienced what I have or been in a room where you experience the vibes, energy and motivation that these events generate!

On reflection, am I jealous or annoyed that these people are considered more successful than myself because they have more ‘likes’, friends or followers than myself? No, why should I be! If they want to spend all their time reading books, reading the internet or watching videos, YouTube or Hangouts – then fair play to them but wanting to do this and be one-dimensional as they say….let them walk the walk & talk the talk…..

Actually, I feel sorry for their so-called fans, followers, tribes, supporters or what ever you want call them! Why, well it is simple, I have worked and experienced what I talk about and provide – these people haven’t! Does this remind you of the saying….

“Those that can – can! And those that can’t – teach!’

So I will leave you one this one thought or should I say contemplation……

You are ill, poorly, hurt or injured – so you go to a nurse, doctor, surgeon at a Doctor’s Surgery or a Hospital because you need the best to treat you as after all they have been trained and allowed to practice because they are not self-taught!!! So if they can’t be self-taught to look after and treat you, your partner, your family…………

Why do you let self-taught people tell you how to run or advise you about your business………….
